You can’t visit the city a bit, and you can’t visit the Alamo. This is one of the best things in San Antonio and it is completely iconic. Not only that, it is also one of the most important historical sites in the United States and is therefore protected.
You see, as early as 1836, the Alamo battle was staged here.
Today, you can visit museums and libraries to learn about some of the amazing ancient history of Texas. Yes, the site may feel very comfortable and small, but it contains a lot of history that you should not miss.
We like to walk around the Alamo at our own pace. However, if you want to learn more about the history, you can join one of the tours to see all the handicrafts around the site.
One thing to note is that the site can be very busy on weekends and holidays. If you prefer a quiet experience, please choose a working day and visit in the early morning.
You can also visit the historic Alamo Church and the Long Barracks Museum here, which are easy to visit after walking the riverwalk.

2.) Natural Bridge Cave
About 30 minutes’ drive from the Alamo, the Natural Bridge Caves are very easy to visit, with a half-day tour starting from downtown San Antonio.
Now, you may find a large number of caves in Texas, but Natural Bridge Cave is one of the largest (easy-to-access) caves in the state. We enjoyed our visit very much and spent many hours underground!
It’s incredible inside, especially when you see all the towering formations on the discovery walking tour. Although relatively easy to enter, once you enter the cave, you need to consider some inclination.
After wandering around the cave system, you can also go for some ground adventures. Try your hand zipline (it is a ball), if you like to exercise, you can also try the rope course! 😉
3.) San Fernando Cathedral
San Fernando Cathedral is one of the oldest cathedrals in the United States, built in 1873. The church has a beautiful architecture and preserves the remains of some Alamo defenders. It is shrouded in history. You really can’t miss it.

Probably our favorite place to stroll in the late afternoon, San Antonio’s River Walk is not to be missed.
Along the river itself, the River Walk is great for exploring on foot. Along the way, you will pass through many places in downtown San Antonio and stop at many small restaurants and bars on both sides of the walking path.
We spent many afternoons chilling by the water with a glass of wine in hand; this is happiness.
If you want to rest your tired feet, you can take a River Walk cruise that sails in the river. This is a great way to see the city, and it’s totally cool.
5.) Market Square
The Market Square is probably one of the best shopping places in San Antonio and a dream place for souvenir lovers!
Here you can find everything from local pottery to custom jewelry or paintings by local artists. Everyone has something.
I promise you will leave with at least one trinket!
After that, go to Silo’s This is the oldest restaurant in San Antonio. Their chicken and biscuits breakfast is very delicious. Besides, their peach pie is everything!
6.) Tower of the Americas
To enjoy the beauty of San Antonio, you will want to walk through the Tower of the Americas. This is one of the best things to do in San Antonio, especially for epic sunsets.
We planned to take a stroll in Hemisfair Park to match the sunset and everything was perfect. Before you plan your day, be sure to check the time of sunset; this way you can get the best view.
7.) La Villita Historical Art Village
La Villita Historic Arts Village is listed on the National Register of Historic Districts and is a place to visit in San Antonio.
We really like art galleries and cozy retro places, they are very cute.
In addition, it is very convenient to visit after a stroll along the riverwalk, as it is just across from the Briscoe Museum of Western Art. By the way, this is also a must-visit museum in this city!
8.) San Antonio Mission National Historical Park
As part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the San Antonio Mission, this is a place not to be missed when you visit the city.
Including the Alamo, San Antonio Missions National Historical Park is a place that manages five missions that are completely iconic in Texas.
When planning your visit, don’t forget to explore Mission San Jose, Mission Concepción, Mission San Juan, and Mission Espada.

Like to visit epic museums when visiting a new city? Well, the Witte Museum is your best choice!
Here you can visit some of the most amazing natural, scientific and cultural galleries that fill the hall. In addition, you may even see some iconic dinosaur bones and exhibits.

11.) Japanese Tea Garden
Part of the larger Brackenridge Park site, Japanese Tea Garden It is a peaceful place in San Antonio and has been carefully restored.
If you are already exploring the neighborhood, this is one of the best things to do in San Antonio Dusem Museum (This is great for kids). In addition, it is not far from the Witte Museum.

This is a hiking and biking trail that connects all five tasks and is one of the best things to do in San Antonio. This is especially true if you want to take a walk but don’t want to leave the city itself.
Mission Trail is relatively easy to walk; but you have to prepare water and sunscreen; just follow your own pace. There are parks, rest stops and picnic times along the way.
